Trans Am Rapture originally known as Trans Am Totem was a striking public artwork by Vancouver artist Marcus Bowcott, created for the 2014–2016 Vancouver Biennale. The 10-metre sculpture featured a towering stack of repurposed vehicles balanced atop a massive old-growth cedar stump, blending industrial and natural forms in a single vertical gesture. Installed near False Creek from 2015 to 2021, the piece aimed to reflect both the exhilaration of modern mobility and the environmental costs of throwaway culture. Though the sculpture has since been dismantled, the city continues to explore a new permanent location, and the work remains a memorable part of Vancouver’s recent public art landscape.
